Measuring malic vs lactic

Jen Gilsdorf started an email discussion on this topic, but I thought I would invite all of CERA to participate.  So far there has been a wide range of response, with some arguing for measuring malic acid, others for lactic, and still others pointing out that it depends on whether you hope to see malic acid disappear or if instead you are concerned with any rise in lactic.

Brand Lab Products - Posted for Matthew Shuplock

Has anyone ever used "Brand" lab products? They recently displayed bottle top burets (non corrosive to iodine) and electronic repeating pipettors at the Managing the Winery Workshop. If so, can you please describe the product you use, and what you think of "Brand" equipment?
