Micro-Managing Soil Variability
Soil variability can be one of the major challenges facing wine grape growers. When vineyards are installed, vines are often planted at standard spacing, a single rootstock is chosen, and a uniform irrigation system is installed that treats the plot of land as a uniform soil profile. However, does this blanket approach to planting address the soil variability found across a plot of land? Duff Bevill of Bevill Vineyard Management has been working with this very issue over the past 13 years. At the Endeavor Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley, Duff Bevill will share his attempts in micro-managing the Endeavor Vineyard based on soil variability. Please bring a bottle of wine for our host and RSVP to the Vit Chair. Directions will be sent to those that RSVP.
